When my sister & I were toddlers, my dad was transferred to a tiny town in northern Saskatchewan, hundreds of miles away from family & friends. It was there that our family learned the value of good neighbours. One of them was a retired schoolteacher -- single & childless -- who lived down the street, with a charming garden and a tiny house chock full of interesting things she'd made and collected over the years. I still have & use the recipes she gave my mother for waffles, Scottish oatcakes and peanut butter cookies, and a china cup & saucer that she gave me when we moved (she also gave one to my sister). Her sister had been a missionary in New Zealand and she always wanted to go there -- and she finally did, when she was 80 years old! I've always thought that if I had to be a little old lady (childless or not), I wanted to be just like her. :) loribethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09272814565916935113noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4129722175911979282.post-77558473471154048762016-01-14T11:25:32.821-08:002016-01-14T11:25:32.821-08:00So glad to read about your awesome landlady and th...So glad to read about your awesome landlady and the sense of community that is happening. It's true that parents are ultimately responsible for setting boundaries, but it's also good to relax a little and let others bring some different perspective yo our children's lives.torthúilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07738803052167620020noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4129722175911979282.post-7297840435318242922016-01-14T07:07:07.158-08:002016-01-14T07:07:07.158-08:00I love this. It took me a long time to learn the lesson about family (odd, because I was raised by more than one person, some who were chosen for me, and some whom I chose for myself), but perhaps I felt I needed to do it alone? Now you've got me wondering why I was so selfish. :)Justine Lhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14190295175501659469noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4129722175911979282.post-15640590744943645252016-01-13T19:35:10.995-08:002016-01-13T19:35:10.995-08:00That would definitely be awesome!!That would definitely be awesome!!Kecharahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05711100496195654068noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4129722175911979282.post-28735023115592910812016-01-13T17:59:43.065-08:002016-01-13T17:59:43.065-08:00Love this. Glad that you have such a great neighbor!

So true about there being no one "absolute" way to address a situation and also this: "that giving birth automatically didn't make one an authority on a subject or outlook". Hopefully this winds up being someone who might be able to watch the kiddos and give mom and dad a date night down the road !Aramishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12275274008426941898noreply@blogger.com
