This morning I had an interview for a new position. It went very well, with a fruitful discussion afterwards. I love the mission of this organization, which is job training and placement for those who are socio-economically disadvantaged.
The problem is the pay. The insanely low pay that doesn't cover childcare.
Years ago, a woman I was climbing with had an affirmation in her kitchen reminding her to visualize her end goals. In her case, it was finding employment that would allow her the ability to pay her bills while giving her the freedom to pursue rock climbing. But the affirmation was a universal one.
And that's what I'm trying to do at the moment. Instead of panicking and throwing all this hard work out the window, I'm trying to put together an image of what I want. Even if it's just for the short-term. To visualize an end-goal that promotes my family.
I'm glad you had a good experience at the interview! even if the job is not quite what you are looking for. I hope it's a sign of things moving in the right direction. And yah, it takes a surprising amount of clarity and sometimes courage to visualize and express what you want. At least, I know I struggle with that at times. IT can be much easier to just mosey along doing what seems to be convenient.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the interview went well! It's hard, wondering if you should take that leap of faith. That sucks the pay is so low. That makes it really tough.
ReplyDeleteDamn, the pay. I'm glad that at least it went well, and you felt heard and valued. In a job search, that's really important. Visualising is good - as it can help us decide exactly what it is we want.

Pay is important... but so are many other things (including your sanity...!). Is there the potential for advancement (&/or raises)? Could this job be a stepping stone to something more lucrative, a little further down the road? Plus, the Beats will not need daycare forever, at least not for the full day, once they start school. That will bring your costs down. :) Good luck! At the very least, as the others have said, it was a good interview that boosted your spirits, and that's a positive thing. :)
